Emmy-winning actor Rachel Brosnahan, widely recognized for her captivating role as Midge Maisel in the critically acclaimed series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, her turn as Lois Lane in last year’s Superman (with a reprisal scheduled for the planned 2027 sequel), and her current production on Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent, reached out to interior designer Zoë Feldman. "She slid into my DMs," Feldman recalls with a laugh, the memory still amusing. "I honestly thought it was a joke."
However, Brosnahan was entirely serious about collaborating with Feldman, whom she discovered during the unprecedented period of lockdown. "To stop doomscrolling, I started following a lot of home renovation and design accounts," Brosnahan explains. "I was mood-boarding our dream apartment, and as I was collecting images, I realized that so many of them were from Zoë’s work." "We wanted a big comfy couch. That was one of our nonnegotiables," Brosnahan explains. The apprehension surrounding the vibrant color was palpable. "One of the first things you see when you walk into the apartment: a giant pink couch. It could have gone really badly," the actor admits. "The color had to be exactly the right shade, and thankfully we found it." "Rachel is really drawn to stripes," says Feldman, "so you see them represented in different ways throughout." "In any space that feels like it leans more classic, a stripe instantly makes it feel a little bit more updated and modern. We like that push-pull," Brosnahan explains. "The balance is appealing." Color plays a crucial role in defining the apartment’s character. The galley kitchen, after months of deliberation and exploration of various shades, was finally painted in Farrow & Ball’s Bancha. This decision marked a departure from more conventional greens. "We were flirting with some forest greens, which just didn’t feel like the vibe. This made it feel a little funkier," Feldman shares. "A forest or a duck green would’ve felt more ‘country club’ and they aren’t that." The chosen hue injects a vibrant, contemporary energy into the functional space.
The couple’s appreciation for art is a central theme woven into the fabric of their home. Works by over two dozen artists adorn the walls, reflecting their passion and the influence of their creative circle. "As people who have been fortunate enough to spend so much of our lives surrounded by great artists who have shown us the world in color, we really wanted the apartment to feel reflective of that," Brosnahan states. "We wanted it to be filled with art that we love and artists we admire." This commitment to showcasing admired artists transforms the apartment into a personal gallery, a testament to their discerning taste and appreciation for creative expression.
Personal Touches and Unexpected Displays
The design also incorporates deeply personal touches that celebrate the couple’s journey and achievements. Brosnahan’s Screen Actors Guild, Golden Globe, and Emmy awards, alongside Ralph’s childhood Little League trophy, are displayed in a guest bathroom. "We found that people had a lot of fun playing with them and giving their awards speeches into the mirror," says Brosnahan, who emphasizes the couple’s grounded perspective. "We would never want to take that kind of thing too seriously despite being so obviously grateful to have them." The inclusion of art from Don Buchta, a neighbor from Brosnahan’s childhood in Wisconsin, adds a layer of familial and artistic history. Buchta has been sending Brosnahan pieces of art twice a year, every year, since her birth, typically wrapped in brown paper and housed in a Dutch Masters cigar box. Brosnahan now possesses approximately 55 pieces from Buchta. "I’m astonished by that piece," she says, referring to a painting in the study. "She’s so talented, and it’s been such a pleasure and a privilege to watch her art explode over the last 10 years." Brosnahan expresses deep gratitude for his enduring commitment, viewing him as her "artistic guardian angel."

The project, which spanned nearly three years, was a testament to the couple’s demanding schedules and the collaborative spirit between Brosnahan, Ralph, and Feldman. "I had moved 11 times in 10 years, and so much of our lives has been lived on the road. With this space, we were looking for something that felt like a real home with a capital H, a place that we never wanted to leave, a place that the people we love would also get to share," Brosnahan reflects. "We wanted a space that felt like we could put roots down for the first time."
